Search Engines
Anyone that utilizes the internet has a strong knowledge about what a search engine is. A search engine is simply a tool designed to help you navigate the World Wide Web.The results are commonly referred to as hits. You can pull information from a number of different sources such as web pages, images, pdf files, and many others. Search engines are a mixture of algorithmic and human input, there is not much human interaction that comes into creating a search engine.
Search engines, believe it or not transfer all of your words that you type into the search bar into a series of numbers, the numbers are then converted into decimals, commonly referred to as hexadecimals, and then after the server recognizes the pattern of numbers you are searching for then your page can be pulled up.
The process may sound mind baffling, but that is why we are humans, and all we do is fix the computer when it does not work correctly, we don’t think like the computer.
Back, on the subject of the search engines, there are wide arrays of engines that you can utilize to navigate the web with. The most popular search engine is Google. Many people don’t try any other search engine but Google, the reasons behind it are all preference related. Google has become the most used because of all the updates that are constantly being added.
Many people forget about search engines like Yahoo, AOL and even the newly launched Bing, because of the entire craze Google gets. The search engine itself does not matter as far as what you’re trying to look up while utilizing the internet. Most people choose Google out of preference, and since most countries utilize Google they think they will get better hits if they are in the internet marketing or advertising field.
The history of search engines is actually pretty intriguing. The search engines that started the whole craze are not even utilized anymore. This goes to show you, one engine can be on top one year and completely extinct the next.
The first search engines were created in 1993, and they were Aliweb and Jumpstation. These two names almost sound foreign to any new age computer users. It’s hard to fathom that computers did not become a big craze until the year 1996. Many people choose to not recall the old search engines because they don’t want to get made fun of.
The fact of the matter is, history is what creates the present. If it had not been for the first search engines, we would not be able to enjoy such engines as Google or Yahoo. Ponder that for a few, it takes starting off from nothing to make something so big.
With this Google craze, the next question, is what search engine is going to be next? Could you imagine, designing the next search engine for your grand kids? It’s kind of far fetched but completely and totally possible.
Search engines are not going anywhere, so sit back, and let the do the thinking for you.
